Episode Transcription

Dan Humiston: . [00:00:00] right, everyone. Thanks for joining us. And welcome back. We have another great show in store for you today. Maggie Wilson is here to talk about her podcast, metaphysical, AAF, Maggie.

Welcome to the

Maggie Wilson: thanks so much for having me, Dan. It's great to be here.

Dan Humiston: Well, I'm glad you could join us. And before we get stuck. I want to warn our listeners, that I'm going to wander a little off the ranch today. Normally the main character in this show is cannabis, but today cannabis is just a supporting character. Meg, I'm going to let you start at like 50,000 feet and then we'll work our way down.

What is metaphysical? AAF?

Maggie Wilson: So metaphysical AAF became became my little outlet of reaching out to people and kind of spreading the knowledge that I knew in a format that wasn't me spending all my time and energy, creating an event. I started creating events in Colorado in 2017. And although it was so much fun, it was [00:01:00] so exhausting after one year of doing specific events that were, metaphysical really means like, Beyond Metta means beyond.

So it's like the study of things beyond what we know as physical. So gets into those reaches of quantum mechanics and quantum physics and spirit and the elements of spirit and all those things that like. We know about them because we are them, but they're just our autopilot designs , that we run on every day.

So we don't really pay so much attention to them.

Dan Humiston: Wow. We have a lot to unpack there. Let's start off with what are some of the benefits. Let's start off with some of the benefits of getting beyond the.

Maggie Wilson: Absolutely. So, one of the best benefits of really like taking on this metaphysical title or claim is that you really get beyond yourself. You get beyond the.

the chatter in your head. I know a lot of us like to call it the monkey brain. When you go into these metaphysical [00:02:00] practices or studies, you get to quiet that, these are really ancient practices that have just not been really talked about or they've they're talked about, but not to an extent that it's really mainstream.

So , it's nice to have. Dive into something that you know, is really old, that people before us were using to handle their own anxieties and how life was for them and how somehow these practices have still gotten passed down to us after thousands of years. So I think the benefit is that, , we can find comfort in those ancient practices that we know.

Other people found comfort into and collectively That's how we heal.

Dan Humiston: That's great. You're the author of the metaphysical cannabis, Oracle deck, and I guess kind of tie the cannabis into this. How can cannabis help us get beyond the physical?

Maggie Wilson: Thank you so much for asking that because it's a mouthful, even to say the name of the deck, [00:03:00] it's like the metaphysical cannabis or what, like, it's, it's so much, but for me, I was raised to believe. I was allergic to cannabis. I grew up in the south in a very small, like 3000 people town.

And

I think there was maybe 2% of the town was black people, but my mom was very, my mom was very, very. Very overly protective. So much of the fact that she knew that if I went down the same path that my 17 year old brother went down, who got caught smoking a joint in an abandoned boy scout building he had to go through the whole rigamarole, but he wound up just doing community service.

And , my mother was like, I don't think that's going to happen. If you take that same route. So like, as a mom now I totally understand her logic of telling me you're allergic to cannabis. It's Okay.

to be around people who are smoking it.

Nothing's going to happen there, [00:04:00] which I should have. I'm allergic now, but for me, it really morphed into figuring out once I smoked cannabis for the first time, I was like, wow, what mental programs am I reading that are completely false? That I just accepted as true and believed.

So the metaphysical cannabis, Oracle deck is basically. How I grew up, I wasn't allowed to really work with things that the Jehovah's witness organization would say. Of the devil or of the world. So anything outside of the organization is pretty much forbidden.

So I was not allowed to have tarot cards , and the taro is actually like a very ancient practice. It's that was a game at first. So. Once I moved to Colorado and was very much immersed in this new cannabis scene I started working for like a wedding event company.

And I was like, if I want to work in [00:05:00] weed, I want to do it like. The bougiest thing I can do, and I love wedding. So when I found this company, I was like, this is great. It gave me the foundation for my event knowledge and like the regulations that each state at the time in 2015 had for how you can do things.

So I morphed that knowledge into. , the events that I spoke about at first and during one of those events, I was like, I really wish I had something to give to every person that walked in. And it was like a card about cannabis. It told them something that they needed to know. It gave them like an actionable tool of like, Okay. not just this, but , here's what you can do to make yourself feel better with this.

And years later, they say, if you write it down, it really does happen. And back in 2017, I made a Google sheet of 78 cards that had basically cannabis, connections and [00:06:00] education about how to consume different forms of cannabis. Cause the industry has progressed so much.

It was 20, 22. So they were things in 2015 that didn't even exist. That I was like, we should talk about this. And there should be a card about how to medicate with an edible and how to medicate, with the volcano and how to medicate with a bong, because , everybody has a different way they like to consume.

So this Oracle deck really has morphed into an educational fun game that you can play with yourself or your friends. That's like. Here's an ancient African DD, and here's what they stood for And here's how it relates to cannabis and your life and how you can call on that energy or do this actionable tool, like be silent for a day or, look into a mirror and.

Speak to yourself, even though it feels weird, it's weird, but you know, you, when you're talking to yourself, you can really break those blocks. [00:07:00] And that's what this deck is about, is using cannabis as a means to really become more familiar with yourself and what is beyond ourself, which, the bigger part of us.

So it's been years in the works.

Dan Humiston: I mean, there's so much, like I said before we got on, , I was excited to talk to you because I don't know anything about this. So everything you say is new and now when you add this component to it, the complexity is just overwhelming and it is, matter of fact, I have a clip from one of your episodes to kind of give everybody a perspective of what your show sounds like.

Let's play the clip. We'll talk about it right afterwards.

It's just good stuff. I mean, , I don't know that I actually meditate, but I find myself in it state without consciously saying, oh, I'm meditating right now, but when I heard that, I was like, ah,

Maggie Wilson: that makes me so happy that you said I find myself in the states and. That's what like metaphysical, [00:08:00] NIS is, is every aspect of your life being like, oh, this is in flow and this feels aligned and this feels good. And like things actually happen for you and you create change in your life especially when you use cannabis to get that euphoria.

Like I heard someone say the other day, God forbid, the side effects of cannabis that they're euphoria. God forbid the people feel good.

Dan Humiston: Oh, I've heard that before. Like what is the side effects? Well, you relax, you sleep better. You're euphoric. I'm like, yeah, those are the, those are the side effects. And the one thing we always like to do on this show is, is give advice to aspiring pod-casters. And I said this before, but I just have a really hard time when I don't have a guest or I don't have a.

Co-host to share the load. I guess a lot of your episodes are straight up solo episodes. Like you're 25, 30 minutes straight up solo, which is to me is [00:09:00] just so impressive. Just give us, how do you prepare for those

Maggie Wilson: Honestly, I ride it out., I was one of those kids in school that I won the writing awards and I would be the, like the top writer or something. And it was because I, as soon as I got the idea, I, I wrote it down and I just let it kind of flow onto the Google sheet or the piece of paper or. With software.

I'll just take like a voice memo that converts it into a transcript because I'm just like, I have this idea right now and I should know I can ramble on for 20 minutes about it,

but it's really just putting it on paper helps so much. It helps so much even digital paper, a Google doc, just writing out exactly what I'm going to say. And then I'll just read it aloud to myself that. , I guess, because , I'm 42 years old.

And I remember my second grade was [00:10:00] basically when we started working with computers at like eight years old. So there was that aspect of like, when we started talking to screens, I got very comfortable. I was like, I could do this. And then podcasting, I was just like, you can just talk and not be on video.

Like this is ideal. So, that first year of the metaphysical AAF podcast really they're just like the bulk of the episodes are really in the front part of a series. And then I've had people say like, cause I have two kids, right. Absolutely hear them and some of the episodes and that's what people love.

They're just like, oh, I loved hearing, the kids in the background. And I was just like, really, like, I was in my closet, like trying to block out all sound. I like it. It's fun. I encourage everybody to that mirror work that helps write it down and then go talk to yourself in the mirror.

Dan Humiston: Wow. Well, that's great advice. That's great advice. And I'll have to try it because I like. [00:11:00] I get psyched out before I do what I do, the solo ones. I just like, I got to avoid those at all costs. You can check out a new episode of metaphysical AAF on all major podcast networks. Maggie.

This has been a lot of fun. I'd love to talk to you more about this , and I'm going to start looking into this. This is one more thing that I need to learn.

Maggie Wilson: Thank you so much for having me. This has been so much fun.
